our last day in rome. we went back to st. peter's basilica today, this time to actually go inside. the inside is so elaborate with floor to ceiling marble. we marveled at everything: the pope statues, the tiled floor, the gold intricacies of the ceiling. we trekked all over rome for the rest of the day, seeing a lot of the places we had been before for one last time.
last night we went back to the trevi fountain just so we could see it all lit up. i think every other person in rome had the same idea because it was crowded. it was a people watching spectacle. we of course admired the beauty of the fountain in it's nightly glow, but we also were entertained by watching all the people. there was a great deal of love floating in the air that night(how cliche). i think we heard/saw several proposals and which got my thinking about that age old saying that paris is for lover's when in fact in my experience, it is actually rome.
